Moment before truck strikes crowd in Nice caught on camera

A video of the moment before a truck crashed into a crowd in the southern French city of Nice killing 84 people who were celebrating Bastille Day has emerged on social media.

The footage, shot by German journalist Richard Gutjahr, shows the large van approaching Promenade Des Anglais, which was shut down to vehicles for the July 14 celebrations.

Security officials can be seen trying to stop the white truck before it speeds up and mows into the crowd packing the road along the beach.

The driver of the truck, whose identity is still unknown, was shot dead by police.

A spokesperson for the interior ministry confirmed that at least 84 people had been killed after the truck ploughed 2 km (1.3 miles) through the crowd.
