Star Trek icon Nichelle Nichols has been cast on The Young and the Restless, Mashable can exclusively reveal.

Nichols will portray Lucinda, a character who shares an "emotional connection" to a main cast member, CBS teases.

"I'm thrilled and honored to be a member of the cast of this historic moment in daytime television," Nichols told Mashable in a statement. "I've been a huge fan of 'The Young and the Restless' for decades. I'm equally honored to be from Chicago like the Bell Family who created this incredible TV show."

Nichols' two-episode arc will first appear on the 11,000th episode of The Young and the Restless, airing Sept. 1.

Nichols, of course, is best recognized and beloved as Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek, a role that she first played on the show between 1966-69 as well as six movies.
