Once again Nicki Minaj has to address the blatant sexism in the hip-hop industry

"In any field, women must work twice as hard to even get half the respect her male counterparts get."

They don't call her the "Queen of Rap" for nothing.

Nicki Minaj bravely called out blatant sexism in the hip-hop industry following a recent interview where rapper Russ sat down with Tidal, giving the "Anaconda" MC props for her music career.

In the interview above, Russ highlighted how Minaj's talent is often overlooked by others.

"You know what people need to start putting respect on?" he asked. "Nicki Minaj."

The rapper also said that Minaj technically "birthed" many female artists working today, and even noted that her famous verse on Kanye West's hit "Monster" was arguably the best on the track.

After thanking Russ for his kind words on Twitter, Minaj went on to highlight the ways in which she's struggled with a glass ceiling in the world of hip hop.

"In any field, women must work TWICE as hard to get even HALF the respect her male counterparts get," she wrote. "When does this stop?"

She went on: "The greats collaborated w/Drake, Kendrick & Jcole b/c they’re dope MC’s. They collab'd w/nicki cuz someone pulled a gun to their heads."

Minaj even pointed to a tweet rapper Kendrick Lamar wrote back in 2010 regarding men hating Minaj's songs more than her female counterparts did.

"I'd have to wear some baggy pants and timbs for men to openly give me props," she wrote.

Minaj is just one of the many female rappers whose talent and hard work tend to go unnoticed, but continues to check instances of brazen misogyny within the hip-hop industry.

Fans of Minaj joined in on the discussion, sharing their thoughts on sexism and respect for not only her but for other female artists as well.
