Nintendo confirms that it's sold more than 10 million Switch 2 consoles

That's a lot, in case you were wondering.

In a very non-shocking development, it turns out Nintendo is doing just fine.

The company updated its official hardware sales tracking page this week to reflect that the Switch 2 console has sold 10.36 million units as of Sept. 30. For reference, the Wii U (easily Nintendo's biggest failure of this century) sold 13.56 million units in its entire lifetime. That console was on the market for four years, while the Switch 2 has been on the market since June. These sales numbers don't even reflect the month of October, during which Pokémon Legends: Z-A probably shifted at least a few Switch 2 units, despite also being available on the OG Switch. We already know that game has sold a lot of copies.

Gamers may remember that the Switch 2 was incredibly difficult to find in stock in the weeks after its June launch, but it's been much more widely available since late July.

Of course, there's also an entire holiday season coming up, featuring releases like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Kirby Air Riders, and Metroid Prime 4. There's an outside chance that the Switch 2 outdoes the Wii U's lifetime sales by the end of 2025.

Again, none of this is particularly surprising, despite some negative discourse from people on YouTube and message boards surrounding the console's high price (by Nintendo standards) in tough economic conditions. The first Switch was a massive success, and the Switch 2 is a new version of that, so of course it's doing well. Nintendo also provided sales numbers for some of the console's early exclusives: Mario Kart World has sold 9.57 million units, and Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 3.49 million units.

All of this is to say that Nintendo probably understands its own business better than angry YouTubers.
