Wireless NES controllers are coming to the Nintendo Switch -- a perfect pairing with the Switch's upcoming library of NES games.

When the long-awaited Nintendo Switch Online service goes live on Sept. 18, subscribers will get access to 20 NES games including staples like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo revealed in a Nintendo Direct stream on Thursday. For those who really want to get that authentic NES experience, Nintendo revealed new pairs of Switch-compatible NES controllers.

The NES controllers cost $60 for two and will begin shipping in December, and will be available to pre-purchase starting on Sept. 18.

Given the library of NES games along with these new controllers, the Nintendo Switch looks like it's on its way to making the NES Classic console obsolete. The NES Classic offers 30 games in one compact throwback console, and if Nintendo adds more classic games to the Nintendo Switch Online service, it may overtake the NES Classic's library.

The wireless NES controllers will work with the Nintendo Switch console with the ability to slide onto the sides of the Switch just like a standard Joy-Con and charge up their battery.

  • Super Mario Bros.

  • Balloon Fight

  • Ice Climber

  • River City Ransom

  • Ghosts'n Goblins

The online service, which also includes access to (previously free) online multiplayer and the ability to back up game save data on the cloud, is $4 for one month, $8 for three months, and $20 for a full year.
