Humorous obituary claims woman chose to die instead of voting for Trump or Clinton

Obituaries are one of the most under-appreciated art forms.

In an obituary in The Richmond-Times Dispatch, one writer decided to put his skills to the test. Most obit writers try to remain somewhat objective or morally neutral. This writer, however, wasn't afraid to editorialize -- and with abandon.

"Faced with the prospect of voting for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, Mary Anne Noland of Richmond chose, instead, to pass into the eternal love of God on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the age of 68," the author wrote of the recently deceased.

Noland was 68 years old at the time of her death. Jim Noland, her husband, told NBC12 that one of their three sons penned the obit. He did not specifically name which son.

Noland told NBC12 that the obituary was intended to be humorous. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, three sons and 10 grandchildren. She was a mother and nurse.
