The past came back to haunt Rumplestiltskin on Sunday's Once Upon a Time, and it’s affecting his expanding family.

In "Devil’s Due," Rumple finds out that Belle is pregnant -- insert shocked gasp here -- but his new job prevents him from rushing to her side anytime soon.

After he makes a deal to do Hades’ dirty work and prevents the Storybrooke crew from heading home with Hook -- more on that in a minute -- he’s quickly double-crossed by the Underworld ruler in a tragic twist that changes everything.

Let’s dive into all of the shocking reveals, dearies.

A suspicious team-up

Most of the action centers around Rumple in Underbrooke, but Regina was also on a second mission: finding her first love, Daniel.

Surprisingly, it’s Cruella who helps, and she tells Regina that tombstones reveal where a person is. Since Daniel’s is broken in half, it apparently means he’s moved on to a better place.

Hmm, anyone else suspicious that Cruella set that up?

Regina later comes across a hurt horse, and her magic reappears in time to save him. Could it be Daniel in horse form, or am I just reaching here?

Hook’s terrible, no good, very bad day

Hades tries to make Hook choose three friends to stay in the Underworld, but he refuses. Hades’ punishment is to slowly lower him, chained up, into the River of Lost Souls, which will turn him into “mindless, tormented” nothingness, but Emma is able to swoop in and save the day.

How did she get there? Just an awkward meet-up with Milah -- “So you’ve been with my former lover and my son?” she questions -- who was coaxed by Rumple to help them break through the dead and living barrier into Hades’ lair.

Even though Captain Swan has a happy reunion, complete with some sweet banter, there isn’t an immediate happy ending. While Emma was saving Hook, Rumple sent Milah to the River of Lost Souls (but pretended it was Hades’ doing) and destroyed their getaway boat. Worse yet, once Emma tries to split her heart and give half to Hook, it won’t work.

It turns out that Hades decided the three people destined to stay in the Underworld forever without Hook’s help: Emma, Regina, and Snow.

So much for their happy endings.

Child of darkness

Rumple’s father leaves him the shop and offers him a case of magical goodies in case he changes his mind and wants to help Daddy Dearest. Rumple then makes a crystal ball to spy on Belle -- and shatters it as soon as he sees her.

We later find out that the image he conjured in the ball was his child, hoping to see a glimpse at Neal, but instead, he discovered his wife is with child.

The worst part -- as we learn in flashbacks -- is he signed away his second-born child to a healer when Baelfire was bitten by a snake as a child. Ironically, he made this deal with the healer because he didn’t want Baelfire to see him as a murderous monster.

Although he later killed the healer, thinking that would nullify the debt, that isn’t the case. After Rumple does some dirty work for Hades -- sabotaging the Storybrooke crew’s way home -- he expects to be sent home to Belle’s side. Instead, Hades brings the healer in from the Underworld, has him sign over the second child deal to him, and basically makes Rumple his bitch.

“Now the price is you work for me,” Hades sneers.

The ultimate Dark One just got out-Dark One'd.
