Lovely Parisians send postcards to persuade Britain to stay in the EU

"Because you have scones and we have croissants"

A group of French citizens from Paris have hopped on the Eurostar and handed out dozens of handwritten postcards across Europe to dissuade British people from voting Brexit. 

The good-willed French were supposed to also give out freshly-baked croissants (Yummy!) to passer-by at London's Kings Cross station, but an arcane EU British electoral rule forbids giving out food which could "corruptly influence any voter" (yes, really).

Operation Croissant, created by novelist Rosa Rankin-Gee, went ahead anyway and the Parisians, led by Imogen Roy and Muysers Marie-Cybèle, decided to donate all the food to a homeless charity instead.

The postcards contain a short note from a Parisian. 

"It might be a personal story about why they feel close to Britain. It might just say hello," they said. "The point is to show how close we are. It’s not a grand political gesture; it’s not designed to spark debate or court controversy. Quite the opposite."
