Warning: this article contains spoilers for everything up to the end of Season 3 that we just couldn't keep behind bars anymore.

It's been three years since Orange is the New Black premiered, and the show's protagonists have evolved from just Taylor Schilling's character Piper to dozens of diverse, awesome women.

Season 4 premiered on Netflix today, and before sinking into your favorite binge-watching couch cushion for the weekend, let's review the five prisoners who left us hanging off the biggest cliffs at the end of Season 3.

Over the course of the first three seasons, Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett evolved from one of the most antagonistic prisoners to one we felt immense compassion for. In Season 3, she began spending time with C.O. Charlie Coates while on driving duty, and their relationship turned abusive. After admitting to Boo that Coates raped her, the two women attempt to carry out an "eye-for-an-eye" plan to get justice, via a broomstick. The women morally cut the operation short, and instead, Pennsatucky faked a seizure to get out of her van driving job. Even though she no longer has to work with Coates, she could still be in danger of his violence in Season 4.

Daya

Dayanara Diaz and Officer Bennett had one of TV's cutest secret romances ever. That is until the following crazy sequence of events happened: Daya got pregnant with Bennett's baby, she slept with Pornstache so she could blame it on him, Pornstache got fired, Bennett disappeared, Daya promised to give her baby to Pornstache's mother Delia, and then Delia found out the baby wasn't her grandchild and offered to raise it anyway. Whew. At the end of Season 3, Daya finally gave birth. Daya's fellow prisoner and mother Aleida didn't want to give her grandchild away, so she told Delia the baby died, when in actuality, Aleida gave the baby to her partner Cesar. In the Season 3 finale, Cesar is busted for making drugs in his home and Daya's baby is taken into custody.

Sophia

Throughout Season 3, Sophia Burset and inmate Gloria Mendoza's sons got to know each other while carpooling for prison visits. Unfortunately it didn't end well — Sophia and Mendoza's new friendship turned into a rivalry that led to a physical altercation. Gloria's friend Aleida then spread hateful, transphobic rumors about Sophia, which led to Sophia being attacked by several women. She reported the attackers' behavior to Litchfield and threatened to sue them over weak security. This unfortunately worked against her — the guards sent Sophia to the SHU (an order she does not resist and she heads there with dignity).

Nicky

We haven't seen Nicky since Season 3, episode 3. Nicky and Litchfield guard Luschek were collaborating to sell heroin that she stole from Vee (who was killed at the end of Season 2). As soon as Luschek was in danger of getting in trouble for his actions, he ratted Nicky out and she was sent to Maximum Security prison. We are hoping she will be safely back in Litchfield during Season 4.

Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren

Even though Season 3 of OITNB was filled with drama, Suzanne left us on a fun and adorable cliffhanger. Throughout the season, her fantasy erotica series "The Time Hump Chronicles" gave her notoriety among prisoners and staff at Litchfield. During the moving final scene in Season 3's finale, she and new inmate Maureen shared a sweet hands-holding moment on the beach, implying a future relationship that we'll hopefully get to see in Season 4.

Remember to practice safe, Orange is the New Black-themed binge-watching techniques, everyone!
