Oscars 2016: The year the giant ball gown died
Princess gowns are officially dead.
Well, at least for now.
Sleek and streamlined dresses ruled the Oscars red carpet on Sunday, signaling it's time to pack away those large full skirts stacked with feathers and layers of tulle.

Unlike last year's Academy Awards, when celebrities like Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez, glided the red carpet in gowns fit for a storybook princess, this year women sloughed the extra fluff.
Keeping silhouettes minimal -- perhaps channeling the popular basic bitch trend -- stars opted for sultry, body-hugging numbers, column dresses and subtle, loosely flowing skirts.
What stars lacked in volume they made up for in sequins, jeweled embellishments and appliqués.
Even at the Grammy's earlier this month, celebrities opted for simple and slick looks.
If you're a full-blown Cinderella ball gown kind of gal, don't fret. With fashion, trends are cyclical. Glass slippers and poofy princess skirts are sure to make their way back to the red carpet one day soon.
