'Outlander' finale: Writer breaks down emotional scenes

Saturday night's Outlander finale wrapped up in much the same way that the whole second season has unfolded: With tense and violent battle moments as well as quieter emotional ones.

Below, check out the script pages from two different finale scenes -- including the very final moment of the season when Claire discovers Jamie survived the war  -- along with notes from executive producer/writer Toni Graphia.

First up is the moment when Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are forced to kill Dougal (Graham McTavish) -- a departure, Graphia notes, from how that moment happens in the novel. 

In another powerful moment from the finale, Claire discovers that Jaime survived the war (!), and she comes to the decision she must return to him.  Below, Graphia outlines concern in the writers room about how to script Claire's moment with her daughter -- "there was debate about whether mother or daughter should be the one to talk about going back," she explains.
