LONDON -- It's common knowledge that stock photos can be a bit hit and miss.

Every now and then you'll get one that totally hits the nail on the head, while on other occasions... well, sometimes they don't quite hit the mark.

On Monday, journalist Shelagh Fogarty shared a screengrab of a Times article about "over-55s" downsizing in Britain.

In particular, she wanted to draw people's attention to the choice of image.

Her post seemed to strike a nerve on Twitter.

Soon, people in their 50s were sharing photos of what they look like.

Still -- if you think stock photos are awkward now, you should see what they were like in the 1970s.
