In just over two months' time, Overwatch has become Blizzard's fastest selling game, with 15 million players across all platforms.

Not only has Overwatch broken Diablo III's record as the fastest-selling PC game in China, the game is also replacing League of Legends in Korean internet cafes.

Between 15 million people buying the game and some players purchasing loot crates for in-game cosmetics, Overwatch has generated over $500 million for Blizzard, helping to make the second quarter of 2016 Blizzard's best ever.

At its peak subscriber count, Blizzard's long-standing MMORPG titan, World of Warcraft, had 12 million players. Part of what pushed Overwatch's quick success was accessibility: Overwatch can be played on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One, whereas most Blizzard games in the past have been exclusive to PC.

The game appeals to a wide audience, too. As an FPS, it's pretty forgiving compared to other hardcore shooters and gives players 22 unique heroes to choose from, leading users to clock in over 500 million hours of gameplay since the product's release. For the hardcore and competitive gamers, Overwatch is a burgeoning esport that just keeps growing in popularity.

And Overwatch is giving players reason to stay. Blizzard has been periodically updating the game for better hero balance and has already introduced a new hero, Ana. The introduction of another possible hero, Sombra, has been hinted at within the game and players have developed a pretty good picture of her based on in-game clues.

Overwatch has given players other fun updates, like the recent Lucioball event that launched before the start of the 2016 Olympic Games as well as Olympics-themed hero skins.
