'Overwatch' celebrates its first birthday with an anniversary event
Happy one-year anniversary, Overwatch!
Blizzard's celebratory video is a well-deserved victory lap, but there's some news to go along with the milestone: a new time-limited event, and another "free weekend" to go along with it.
Details of the event are scant for now. It kicks off on May 23 and runs into early June, but the video announcing its existence doesn't offer any hints about what kind of activities or skins fans can expect. We're told that those details will be coming closer to the event's start date.
But wait! There's more!
Blizzard will also be hosting another free weekend for Overwatch during the anniversary event. All heroes and maps will be available in "a variety of modes," including Quick Play, Custom Games, and Weekly Brawls.
As with past free weekends, any leveling progress you make and loot you unlock will be permanently tied to your Battle.net account. So if you end up buying Overwatch at a later date, you'll get all your stuff back.
