An intrepid Overwatch investigator uncovered evidence on the game's public test region that may point to a new, upcoming Overwatch hero: Doomfist.

Redditor Venxa posted today that Overwatch's latest PTR update includes a model of the payload on the map Numbani where its glass case has been shattered. That payload, which currently exists in the game, carries Doomfist's gauntlet, but the broken glass suggests it's possible that the gauntlet will be stolen in an upcoming game update.

Here is the current version of the payload carrying Doomfist's gauntlet:

There's a possibility that this model will be implemented into Overwatch in a future update to tease the release of the hero Doomfist. Perhaps Doomfist has taken his gauntlet back, or a different character is now wielding the gauntlet.

Overwatch has teased new heroes before, so this kind of in-game hint isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Who is Doomfist?

Within the world of Overwatch, Doomfist is a bit of a mystery.

There is a set of posters on the map Numbani that show three different individuals wearing three different gauntlets, each referred to as Doomfist. This suggests that Doomfist isn't a single person, but a title given to people who wield powerful gauntlets. It also suggests that Doomfists have been both heroes and villains in the Overwatch universe.

In the lore of the game, the Doomfist gauntlet that may have been stolen from the payload belongs to the second Doomfist, known as The Scourge, who was defeated by the hero Winston, according to the game's cinematic trailer.

The power of this Doomfist gauntlet was shown in the same trailer after a young kid said, "Oh man, they said he could level a skyscraper."

Perhaps The Scourge Doomfist will debut as a playable character, the Doomfist known as The Successor will join the roster, or something else entirely. All we know is that it seems like something will happen involving Doomfist.
