Over 50 countries were invited to compete for a spot in the Overwatch World Cup and 16 of them have qualified to compete at BlizzCon.

The 16 teams are the United States, Canada, China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia/New Zealend, Finland, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Brazil and Chile.

Of these countries, six teams automatically qualified: U.S., Canada, China, South Korea, Brazil and Australia/New Zealand. The remaining qualifying teams are not much a surprise, considering those teams are home to some top competitive Overwatch players.

Starting in BlizzCon's opening week, teams will compete in round-robin group stages followed by a single elimination bracket to be crowned the best country in the world. The opening week starts Oct. 29 and BlizzCon weekend is Nov. 4-5.

Unlike most esports tournaments, the teams in the Overwatch World Cup were formed by voting from the Overwatch community, who voted in four of six players for each team. The player who received the most votes was designated as captain and chose the remaining two players.

Some teams are stacked with top, pro Overwatch players like the U.S., Sweden and China, while others feature popular streamers who aren't necessarily the best players, like Brazil.

All 16 qualifying teams will be receiving a free trip to BlizzCon plus an "appearance bonus," which Blizzard has not released any specifics about. There is no prize pool for the Overwatch World Cup.
