Tension-taming videos of pancake art are all we want to watch right now

Featuring the 'Mona Lisa' in pancake form.

This post is part of Hard Refresh, a soothing weekly column where we try to cleanse your brain of whatever terrible thing you just witnessed on Twitter.

We've all tried our hand at making shapes out of pancake batter -- a first initial perhaps, or maybe a crude version of a dog that bears closer resemblance to a Rorschach test.

But making a pancake that actually resembles anything other than a pancake is difficult. Sometimes the batter is too runny, sometimes your pan is too hot, and sometimes your design gets destroyed when the time comes to flip. But pancake artists have all this down to a science.

Countless videos of pancake art can be found on the internet, and the videos are generally no longer than 90 seconds, meaning they're as easy to consume as actual pancakes.

But though tons of videos can be found on YouTube, there are only a few pancake Michelangelos that actually deserve your attention, each with their own strengths and specialties.

TigerTomato expertly renders pancakes of your favorite cartoons, and is even able to recreate famous works of art like the Mona Lisa.

Dancakes also creates cartoon character-inspired pancakes, but their life-like celebrity portraits their real strength.

Each portrait is bright, vibrant, and surprisingly realistic. Watching Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Muhammad Ali come to life with nothing but colored batter is deeply calming.

Nathan Shields creates beautiful pancakes inspired by animals and popular fandoms. Plus, he's not afraid to play around with the medium, making use of custom Spirographs and a laser printer for his videos. He once even screen printed Nutella onto a pancake.

You'll find it hard to stop yourself from obsessively watching these videos. Every little detail piped into a hot pan using nothing but a series of squeeze bottles is nothing short of edible magic.
