Paul Daniels, legendary British magician, dies at 77

He had an inoperable brain tumour.

LONDON -- British magician and entertainer Paul Daniels has died, a month after it was announced that he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

The 77-year-old who was born in South Bank, Middlesbrough, was diagnosed with the tumour in February, leaving hospital two weeks ago to return home.

“We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour,” a statement from Daniels’ publicist said in February.

His son, Gary, confirmed the magician's death on Twitter, with the following illustration. 

Daniels was a regular fixture on British television with a number of variety shows as well as the Paul Daniels Magic Show, which broadcast on BBC. He also starred in shows in the West End, Las Vegas and Broadway.

In 1983, the Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts presented him with the Magician of the Year award. 

He is survived by his wife Debbie McGee, who was his assistant on stage, and three sons from a previous marriage.
