Is it a chicken? Is it a parrot?

No one knows for a fact, but what's for certain is that these two characters have taken China by storm.

The Poinco Brothers, with their big eyes, pink cheeks and fluffy feathers, were launched by NTT Docomo, Japan's largest telecommunications company.

The company first started using them as mascots in their many advertisements, and it was not long before videos and pictures of the brothers starting appearing on Chinese social media sites.

The characters have been discussed over 27 million times on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

"I'm so in love with the Poinco brothers," said one user on Weibo.

"I just discovered the Poinco brothers and they're so super cute. the more I see them the more I like them," said another.

One even compared her own parrot to a Poinco brother.
