Polka dot omelettes are apparently a thing in Japan

Japan may be the master of cute food (and cute everything) but we're not sure this one's a sure hit.

According to Japanese blogs, polka dot omelettes have started to trend on social media such as Line and Twitter.

The spotty eggs are commonly made by separating the yolk and white before cooking, then frying up a thin layer of the yolk first.

As the yolk cooks, cut out circles with a cookie cutter, before pouring the egg white over it. The transparent egg white cooks into an opaque white layer filling up the holes, making the polka dots.

People are posting their polka dot creations online. You might think it's cute, but personally I think it looks less appetising than a traditional all-yellow omelette.
