Tattoos are pretty much forever, so when you get one, it better be good. And by good, we mean pop culture-referencing.

While there's a tendency to get a tattoo meaning something significant -- like your mother's name, or Chinese characters *shudder* meaning "luck" -- we're in admiration of those who've used their bodies to pay tribute to their favourite modern day icons.

There's an inherent risk that a pop culture tattoo will stop being relevant at some point, so we're giving two thumbs up to these brave souls, who felt the fear and did it anyway.

Oh, and they're all from Australia too. The land of #yolo.

1. There's this magic moment from The Simpsons.

"Oh Mindy, you came and you gave without flaking, but I sent you Ben-gay, oh Andy..."

2. Someone already got Frank from Sausage Party.

Sausage Party only came out this year, but that didn't stop one dude from getting a tattoo of Frank, the movie's lead character. You can watch it being made right here, yo.

3. Jack Nicholson will never go out of style.

4. Neither will Twin Peaks.

5. Pulp Fiction is still so goddamn quotable after all these years.

6. Elton John and David Bowie forever.

7. Don't be afraid of Frankenstein's monster

8. Because BoJack Horseman is your spirit animal.

9. We're digging how adorable this Mulan tattoo is.

10. But this Paddington Bear tattoo surely tops it.

11. If you can't get over Heath Ledger's Joker character in Batman, this is perfect.

12. Can't stand ya!

13. Eric Cartman from South Park isn't always pure evil.

14. Because there's no reason to not love the kids from Bob's Burgers.

15. This Madeleine tattoo will leave you super nostalgic.

16. Charm the pants off your friends with this Totoro tattoo.

17. There's only one word: "Gaaaastly"

18. Finally, for the true blue Australians: Miley Cyrus sporting a Vegemite tattoo.
