Mike Pence's new neighborhood gets plastered with 'trust women' signs
Mike Pence's neighbors would like to welcome him to the neighborhood -- with loud expressions of dissent.
Residents of Pence's new 'hood in Chevy Chase, Maryland, recently posted signs on their lawn that read, "This neighborhood trusts women." The signs are courtesy of NARAL Pro-Choice America, one of the nation's leading advocacy groups focusing on women's reproductive rights.
One such sign even appears directly across the street from Pence's new house.
When group members knocked on local doors to see if they would post signs, many residents were more than happy to participate, DCIst reports.
"NARAL canvassed the neighbrhood where Vice President-elect lives and found dozens of his new neighbors who were interested in signs in their lawn," NARAL spokesperson Doug Gordon told Mashable in an email.
Just 6.5 percent of the district voted for Trump.
As governor of Indiana, Pence helped to sign some of the most restrictive anti-choice legislation in the country and has been a staunch advocate for de-funding Planned Parenthood. In 2011 he told Politico: “As long as they aspire to [provide abortion care], I’ll be after them.”
That was the year he said on the floor of the House: "I long for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history."
Earlier this month, Vice President-elect Pence's neighbors posted gay pride flags all around the neighborhood to celebrate his arrival. Pence, recently named "Homophobe of the Year" by All Out members, voted against legislation that would protect LBGT folks from employment discrimination. An active opponent of same-sex marriage, Pence has also expressed support for conversion therapy.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Vice President-Elect Pence.
