Public and nail-biting declarations of love are the best kinds of declarations of love.

And that's what Australian viewers got Thursday night on live TV show The Project.

Audience member Tara -- in the final stages of chemotherapy for breast cancer -- got a special shout-out from host Carrie Bickmore for her bravery in the face of adversity. But that's not all she got.

The camera lingered on Tara and her boyfriend Jared, who started speaking.

"Tara is probably the strongest, most toughest [sic] person I've ever met. She's the best mum, she's the best partner, she's my best friend. We make the best team."

Continuing as he rose to his feet, Jared reached into the pocket of his jeans and pull out a ring.

A shocked Tara exclaimed a gorgeously Australian "Oh what?!" clasping her hands to her face as Jared got down on one knee, in front of the nation, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.

Warning: You may cry watching this.

Thankfully, Tara replied in the positive.

Those watching the romantic gesture from home were just about as emotionally destroyed as you'd expect.

Is someone peeling onions in here?
