A python eating a possum upside down in a tree is the most horrifying thing you'll see all day

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Everything in Australia is trying to kill you.

While that might be a little OTT, there's nothing like coming across a huge snake devouring a possum to put the fear of nature back into you.

According to Ten News, tourist sisters Simone and Michelle Hunjak came across the carpet python, dangling upside down in a tree, in Byron Bay. Fighting against the laws of physics, the snake was attempting to swallow a ringtail possum whole while it "hung out." Creepy.

Michelle told 9 News she wasn't at all creeped out though. "I really love snakes so it was amazing to see the feeding in person. I had no idea they would be able to eat something like that,” she said. "I was more intrigued and excited rather than scared." Cool story Michelle, you mature individual, you.

We'll be over here, keeping our distance, kay?

The pair watched the hellish display of what Werner Herzog would call "the obsenity of ze jungle," before they had to go. "I would have loved to stay and watch the whole thing," Michelle said.

BRB, bolting shut all windows and doors.
