If you've been a high-flying businessman or woman, having kids can put a dent in your frequent flyer points. But worry no more as you throw another dirty nappy in the bin, your well-earned frequent flyer status is safe.

Qantas, Australia's national airline, is coming to the table for new parents. The company announced Tuesday its parental leave scheme, which will allow parents to keep their status as a high-flying legend even while they spend time with their new bundle.

In an initiative sexily named, "The Status Hold Initiative," any silver, gold or platinum frequent flyer can get their status held for 18 months, even if they are not earning the points needed to keep up their membership level.

It means new parents can continue to lounge around drinking the free champagne and get their preferred seat on the plane -- probably the one with the cot and three seats free next to it.

The program is open to any parent who is taking six months non-paid leave from their company. It is also available to parents adopting or fostering children. Anyone eligible can score the benefit twice in the next five years. If you have a third child, prepare for status drop.

"Status Hold is designed to suit their evolving lifestyle and family needs. A new addition to a family is an exciting time, so this initiative means new parents don’t have to worry about losing their hard earned membership benefits for up to 18 months," Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant said in a statement.

"We recognise that all families are a bit different, so Status Hold will apply to men and women and those welcoming a foster or adopted child."
