The Queen has just made history as the first British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee, meaning it's 65 years since she acceded to the throne.

To mark to occasion, Buckingham Palace has re-released a famous photo showing the Queen wearing some seriously opulent sapphire jewellery.

Aside from the current relevance to the Sapphire Jubilee, there's also a symbolic reason behind the Queen's choice of jewellery.

The suite of sapphires were given to her by her father King George VI as a wedding present in 1947.

The portrait was taken by David Bailey in 2014 for a series of images, with one photo released for the Queen's 88th birthday that year.

The necklace is made of 16 large oblong sapphires encased by diamonds and paired up with a matching pair of earrings. Fancy!
