A mathematical colouring book on Kickstarter has raised more than $400,000
Yes, it's a colouring book. And yes, it has raised more than A$400,000 ($310,750) so far on Kickstarter. To be fair to its illustrator, however, it's certainly a little more stunning than, say, Ikea's colouring pages.
Rafael Araujo, a Venezuelan architect and illustrator, has created the Golden Ratio Coloring Book along with a team in Sydney, Australia. The Kickstarter campaign to publish the book, which ends Apr. 29, has already left its original $27,000 ($20,975) goal well behind.

The book features the artist's stunning line drawings -- extremely detailed renderings of shells, butterflies and organic shapes. According to his fundraising page, Araujo is inspired by the Golden Ratio, which is a mathematical theory about recurring patterns of proportion in the natural world that has proved controversial among academics.
Araujo has been drawing by hand for 40 years, he says in the Kickstarter video. "I was 15 when I started noticing intelligent patterns in the work of nature. Spirals, sequences, proportions," he explains. "With this book, we hope to help you understand the magic of nature a little bit better."
A book for colouring fanatics and math nerds. Clearly, a killer combination.
