'Rick and Morty' is back and everyone wants McDonald's Szechuan dipping sauce

The sudden return of Rick and Morty on April Fools' Day left fans with quite an appetite.

Not just for more episodes, but for a taste of McDonald's Szechuan McNuggets dipping sauce. Yep -- the short-lived sauce released back in June 1998 to promote the Disney film Mulan.

Without revealing too much of the first episode of season three; Rick really, really wants that sweet dipping sauce.

Although we wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland who are using the series to demand the fast food chain bring it back.

Regardless, it seems to be working: Fans are lobbying on the show's behalf to bring back the sauce. They're even turning up to their local McDonald's and requesting it.

There's also numerous petitions on Change.org asking McDonald's to bring back the sauce, one of which has reached more than 8,000 signatures.

It's worth noting a live-action version of Mulan is slated for release in 2018. Seems like a good time to use a dipping sauce to promote a movie, if you ask us.

The original commercial for the sauce, which was uploaded onto YouTube back in 2009, has received hundreds of thousands of views in past 24 hours.

(Also, 99 cents for six McNuggets? Ridiculous.)

As for what the Szechuan sauce tastes like, it was apparently THAT good, as per comments in this reddit AMA.

Yes, there's even a recipe, if you simply can't wait for McDonald's to cave in.

And yep, McDonald's seem to be listening to the call of fans, as per a tweet on Sunday.

If only we had our own TV shows to force fast food chains to bring back long-lost menu items.
