Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to PlayStation 4 on Oct. 11 -- almost a full year after it was released on Xbox One -- and it's going to include a new mode specifically for PlayStation VR.

The VR mode apparently connects to Blood Ties, a "story mode" game add-on that allows players to explore franchise heroine Lara Croft's home, Croft Manor. Connected to that is "Lara's Nightmare," a replay-friendly mini-game in which you fend off zombies inside the manor.

The story side of the add-on tasks Lara with searching her home for proof that she is the manor's rightful heir. It's not clear if the VR support ties into the story. All we know is that it "empowers players to unlock the mysteries of Croft Manor in first person."

Blood Ties is also coming to PC and Xbox One as a paid add-on (it'll be free for anyone that bought a Season Pass). However, It won't include the VR mode. We've reached out to game publisher Square Enix to see if it has plans to add Oculus Rift/HTC Vive support on PC at a later date.

Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 also introduces the new "Endurance Mode," a first-for-the-series cooperative challenge. The official description makes it sound like a survival game with Tomb Raider twists:

Two players must team up to survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies by night. Fire takes fuel, food restores health, and every resource must be hunted, collected, or crafted.

Finally, the PS4 release introduces an Extreme Survivor difficulty. Stepping up the challenge of the game's existing top-tier Survivor setting, Extreme Survivor removes all checkpoints from the game, forcing players to scavenge and build campfires -- which double in Rise.. as save points.

The new features and modes in the PS4 release join all the other Rise of the Tomb Raider add-ons that Square has released to date. The new stuff is also coming to PC and Xbox One, though it's not clear which items will cost money to non-Season Pass holders.
