"That was a hoot!" is what many people will fondly think of when they recollect Rocko's Modern Life. Now the bizarre and wonderful TV show, starring an Australian wallaby whose best friend is a cow, is on its way back to television.

An original one-hour special based on the series has been announced by Nickelodeon, roughly 20 years (!) after it finished its original four season run in 1993 to 1996.

The creator of Rocko's Modern Life, Joe Murray will be the TV special's executive producer, with casting and an air date yet-to-be announced.

"I'm very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again," Murray said in a statement.

"What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it's not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after twenty years, they can't wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say."

All of the show's original characters will be brought back in the special, with some "surprising new takes on life in O-Town" -- whatever that may mean.

This news follows Nickelodeon's attempts to bring back other hallmark TV series from the '90s, such as the upcoming TV flick Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie in 2017, as well as the rather tepid Rugrats spinoff All Grown Up! from 2003.

Let's just hope the Rocko remake fares better.
