You can't mess with the police, not even if you're Ronald McDonald.

Chinese authorities in Guangzhou, China, resorted to forcibly dismantling a Ronald McDonald statue that stood on the sidewalk of a McDonald's outlet on the Huadu district's Longzhu Street on Sunday.

In Guangzhou, it's illegal to place outdoor advertising on the sidewalks. According to a government official, repeated warnings to McDonald's to remove the mascot have fallen on deaf ears, reported People's Daily.

"We've asked them to remove the Ronald McDonald statue from the sidewalk several times. But they have refused to cooperate," an employee at the government sub-district office told Chinese reporters.

"If the McDonald's staff admit their violation and accept the punishment, they can have their statue back," the officer added.

So as bystanders watched on in amazement, three uniformed code enforcement officers proceeded to mercilessly rip Ronald off his stand, leaving only his shoes behind.

Pictures of the spectacle have since gone viral on Weibo. And while netizens are surprised that even Ronald McDonald can have a run-in with the law, some Weibo users have hinted that this could be the act of a rival fast-food restaurant.

One Weibo user posed this question: "Are they in cahoots with KFC?"

We can't wait for Ronald's mugshots to be released.
