Ronan Farrow is not pleased with the way the media is handling Woody Allen.

Farrow, a reporter and the famed director's estranged son, penned a blistering essay for The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the publication ran a feature on Allen. In his essay, Farrow criticizes the way people -- himself and THR included -- have handled his sister Dylan's allegations of sexual assault against Allen.

"Initially, I begged my sister not to go public again and to avoid speaking to reporters about it," he writes. "I'm ashamed of that, too."

Farrow continues, writing that when he was a child, he was "troubled by our father's strange behavior around her: climbing into her bed in the middle of the night, forcing her to suck his thumb."

Farrow adds that he met with a reporter and an attorney and found all of Dylan's claims "to be credible." Allen has never been criminally convicted, but that "is not an excuse for the press to silence victims, to never interrogate allegations," Farrow writes.

The former MSNBC host also takes aim at Amazon, which will air Allen's new TV series, and celebrities like Miley Cyrus who still choose to work with the director.

"It hurts my sister every time one of her heroes like Louis C.K., or a star her age, like Miley Cyrus, works with Woody Allen," he says.

Now those stars will be at the Cannes Film Festival, which began Wednesday with a screening of Allen's latest, Cafe Society. But no one will ask them "the tough questions" because "it's not the time, it's not the place," muses Farrow.

"That kind of silence isn't just wrong. It's dangerous," he writes. "It sends a message to victims that it's not worth the anguish of coming forward."
