Ever had one of those evenings where you decide to watch a movie, only to spend so much time trying to decide on a movie that by the time you've picked one, you no longer have time to watch a movie?

Sure you have -- we've all been there. But maybe this will help the next time you find yourself in that situation.

Fandango's video service, FandangoNOW, and Rotten Tomatoes have teamed up to create the "200 Essential Movies to Watch Now" challenge – basically a list of 200 titles hand-picked by Rotten Tomatoes editors and ranked in order of their Tomatometer scores.

Explains Rotten Tomatoes editor Alex Vo:

We are obsessed with movies so a lot of love went into creating this list. It was important to us to find best-in-category films covering a wide range of genres, diversity in casts and subject matter, including coming-of-age stories. Above all, we wanted this list to present a fun challenge where people can share the Rotten Tomatoes '200 Essentials' list with others, check off which classics they've seen, and discover great new movies with friends and family.

It's not a definitive selection of any sort – every cinephile has their own personal canon, and that's never going to change – but it's a fantastic starting point whether you're a causal fan trying to get educated or a longtime film geek looking to fill in some gaps.

Honestly, even if you've seen all or most of the movies on this list, it's a good excuse to revisit some old faves. When's the last time you actually watched Heat or Snow White from start to finish?

To get the party started, here are the first 25.

  1. The Wizard of Oz

  2. Citizen Kane

  3. The Third Man

  4. Get Out

  5. Mad Max: Fury Road

  6. All About Eve

  7. Inside Out

  8. The Godfather

  9. Metropolis

  10. E.T.

  11. It Happened One Night

  12. Singin' in the Rain

  13. Casablanca

  14. Moonlight

  15. A Hard Day's Night

  16. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

  17. North by Northwest

  18. The Maltese Falcon

  19. King Kong

  20. Sunset Boulevard

  21. The Adventures of Robin Hood

  22. Psycho

  23. Selma

  24. Rear Window

  25. Taxi Driver

Check back on Rotten Tomatoes or Fandango later today to find out the other 175. Then, once you've settled on a movie to watch, you can head over to FandangoNOW for 20% off on any rental or purchase of the available films from the list.
