So, John Oliver apparently just bought Russell Crowe's jockstrap to lend a hand to a video store. This is an actual thing.

Last week, Crowe put on a massive auction of his stuff called "The Art of the Divorce."

It managed to reap the Australian actor more than $3 million in sales, where Crowe managed to offload a jockstrap he wore for the film Cinderella Man, which somehow sold for A$8,540 (US$6,760.)

Crowe and Denzel Washington's seat from American Gangster sold for A$2,928 (US$2,317) and A$3,660 (US$2,897) respectively, while a vest worn by Crowe in 2012's Les Misérables went for a somewhat mammoth A$14,640 (US$11,586).

Who would buy all this random stuff? Here's where John Oliver comes in.

The Last Week Tonight host purchased the memorabilia for the last Blockbuster store in Anchorage, Alaska, one of a few surviving independent franchises after the home movie retailer closed all of its U.S. stores in 2013.

Oliver said it'd be a "fun, movie-themed way to draw people in," just like a Planet Hollywood. We can't argue with that.

Also on the list of items bought at the auction included a satin robe from Cinderella Man, a Ridley Scott seat back, and a hood from 2012's Robin Hood.

The manager of the Blockbuster in Anchorage has 48 hours to call Oliver to claim the items.

"If we do not hear from you in the next two days, I know a transportation museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania that could make room for a new exhibit," he said. Better get calling.
