Texas congressman falls for recurring hoax and names false shooter on CNN

He's not the shooter, he's never the shooter.

It's happened again, and this time it was even broadcast on a national channel.

Months ago, we warned about a disturbing hoax making the rounds every time there's a shooting or terrorist attack in and outside the U.S.

The recurring hoax, which probably originated on 4chan's controversial Politically Incorrect board, /pol/, claims prankster and comedian Sam Hyde is the gunman.

Hyde has been misattributed as the "lone white gunman" during shootings in San Bernardino, Kalamazoo, Baton Rouge, and Orlando, among others, and now, a Texas church shooting, which killed at least 26.

After the shooting at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas went live on CNN to falsely claim the gunman was -- you guessed it -- Sam Hyde.

"It was reported to me that he's actually not from this community. Apparently his name was released as Sam Hyde, that was the name I was given," Gonzalez said.

J.M. Berger, a security analyst, immediately expressed his frustration on Twitter to see the infamous hoax going on CNN:

It's unclear how Gonzalez received the misinformation about Hyde being the shooter, but his pic popped up on Twitter after the Texas shooting, just like almost any other:

But Sam Hyde wasn't the only recurring hoax around. Here's Reviewbrah, a.k.a. "TheReportOfTheWeek," who is definitely not missing from the shooting:

Reviewbrah is a teenage vlogger on YouTube which became a well-known meme and was also incorrectly reported as missing after the Manchester shooting and the one in Las Vegas.
