Not a "singer, singer?" Maybe you're not a "guitarist, guitarist" huh Santana? Credit: MIKE NELSON/EPA/REX/Shutterstock

Man, this story's a hot one.

Carlos Santana is a known guitar genius, but on the subject of Bey? He clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

The 69-year-old music legend responsible for the over-meme'd travesty that is "Smooth" had the nerve to criticise Beyoncé in an interview following the Grammys -- weighing into the whole "who deserved the Album of the Year award the most" debate. And what he said shook the BeyHive to it's very core.

"I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing," Santana told AAP via the New Zealand Herald. "With all respect to our sister Beyoncé, Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it's more like modelling kind of music -- music to model a dress -- she's not a singer, singer, with all respect to her," he said.

Adele on the other hand, "doesn’t bring all the dancers and props," he said. "She can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that's it, and this is why she wins."

Huh. Interesting theory, Carlos Santana. However, it's a terrible one, as Twitter users were quick to point out.

Oh look, here's Beyoncé and all her isolated lack-of-vocals now. 🙄

But it turns out even Santana is anti-Santana in this instance. He's clarified his statement, having been dragged to hellfire and back by Bey's loyal fanbase.

He hit up Facebook on Wednesday to say his words were "taken out of context" and to send his regards to the Knowles family.

OK, Carlos Santana. You're statements are forgiven, not forgotten, etc. But you know what we will never forgive you for? THIS.

It might not be a crime at face value, but Carlos Santana's complicity in the creation of "Smooth" by Santana featuring Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas cannot, and will not, be forgiven.

Not only is it an annoyingly catchy dad rock jam, but it's responsible for a wave of dank memes that bros can't stop creating and sharing and probably never will.

Thanks a lot, Carlos Santana. Not only have you slandered the Queen but you have single-handedly (feat. Rob Thomas) created an undying wave of internet nostalgia for a song that was annoying enough to begin with.

Take some responsibility. Or the Beygency will come for you.
