Take our money, Broadway: Sara Bareilles is joining the cast of 'Waitress'
Sugar, butter, flour -- SARA! Sara Bareilles, the GRAMMY-nominated singer and composer behind Broadway's Waitress, will take on the lead role in the show this spring.
Bareilles joins the rare breed of Broadway composers who have starred in their own works, such as Legs Diamond's Peter Allen, [title of show]'s Jeff Bowen, and some guy named Lin.
Fans of Bareilles and the show expected her to eventually take on the role of Jenna Hunterson, but now it's official.
Bareilles will take over for Jessie Mueller, who won a Tony for playing Carole King in Beautiful and was nominated along with Bareilles at the 2016 Tonys (both lost to some other show). Bareilles released her own Waitress covers, so it won't be the first time audiences hear her sing these songs -- but we can't wait for more.
Bareilles will debut in Waitress on March 31. Tickets are available now.
