Participating in a democracy can be hungry work.

Now you can plan ahead with Google's Election Maps, featuring important details on whether a polling booth this Australian federal election has a sausage sizzle and/or a cake stall. The mainstay of every election campaign in the country.

The map also features wheel-chair accessible polling locations, information on seats around the country and the candidates set to appear on your ballot paper. Handy if you're curious as to what Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow is standing for this federal election.

Plus when votes start being counted on July 2, the map will show real-time information on how much of an electorate has voted, as well as who is currently winning in your seat. Bye bye Kerry O'Brien.

If you've totally forgotten to vote, Twitter has the account @AusPolling. Simply send a tweet to the account asking for your nearest polling booth with the hashtag #ausvotes and it'll respond with a personalised tweet with the location.

The tweet will also give you details on the accessibility of the polling booth and whether it has a sausage sizzle or a cake stall too. You'll need to have location services switched on to make it all work.

However, both are missing an essential feature: Telling us the shortest gauntlet of annoying people handing out "how to vote" cards outside these polling booths. Perhaps it's one for next election?
