Scott Baio, star of the 1980s sitcom Charles in Charge, is going to say a few words at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

The invite came from no less than the presumptive Republican nominee himself, Mr. Donald Trump.

Baio gives Trump a bona fide celebrity speaker to join the list of cheerleaders who will sing his praises as he formally assumes the role of the Republican Party's 2016 presidential candidate.

"I wish that people could meet Donald Trump. I really do," Baio said in a Sunday interview on Fox News.

"He is such a regular guy. And every time I've talked to him and been with him ... he's a guy who is very successful, and that's one of the things that I hope will connect with millions of Americans."

Baio made a name for himself with roles on the classic sitcom Happy Days and its spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi, but most probably know him best for Charles in Charge. His acting work has quieted down in recent years, with the Nick@Nite series See Dad Run taking up most of his time.

Baio is also an outspoken social media user who doesn't shy away from discussing his personal politics in public spaces. His views are definitely in line with Trump's, that much is clear. He also makes a habit of stooping to the same level as trolls when dealing with his critics.

Whether or not this move will appease Trump fans disappointed by the absence of Tim Tebow remains to be seen.
