Young seal thinks he's people; makes the public toilet his new home

It's like Free Willy but on a much tinier, less grandiose scale.

A visitor to Devonport Mersey Vale Cemetery in Tasmania got a bit of a shock trying to use the public bathrooms when they discovered a 129 kilogram male fur seal tucked up for a nap in the toilet block.

Karina Moore of the Devonport City Council tells Mashable Australia that the visitor notified council workers at the cemetery, after discovering the tired and grumpy ball of fur and flippers.

The location was particularly unusual, Moore says, because of the toilet blocks lack of proximity to a water way. "He would have had to cross a main road and quite a few paddocks to reach his final destination, sleeping in those toilets," she said.

The Advocate posted a Facebook Live on their page to alert locals to the cemetary's latest addition and to ask that the public relieve themselves elsewhere until the seal could be relocated.

It didn't take long for a Parks and Wildlife recovery team to come along and transport the bundle of snooze back to his proper and less-urine-soaked home.

Specialists managed to safely sedate Sammy the seal (as they had named him) in order to transport him back to a local waterway.

The exact beach location has not been disclosed in the interest of giving Sammy some much needed privacy after his Baby's Day Out style adventures.
