Hulu snags Sean Penn to star in upcoming series about Mars
Sean Penn is making the move to streaming.
The Academy Award winning actor is set to star in Hulu's upcoming original drama series, The First, which will follow the first human mission to Mars.
The series — by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon — will depict the challenges a group of astronauts face while trying to achieve interplanetary colonization, while following the lives of their loved ones on Earth and the ground team overseeing the mission, according to a press release.
Though Penn — who just finished portraying President Andrew Jackson in the HBO miniseries American Lion — has stared in his fair share of dramas, he hasn't done much television work over the years. However, Willimon still thinks he'll be perfect for the role.
"I have such deep admiration for Sean’s immense talent and extraordinary body of work," the show creator said in a press release. "I feel very lucky to be collaborating with an artist of his caliber."
The show will reportedly start production this year and premiere in 2018.
