Video shows how that EgyptAir 'selfie' was captured

There's more to it.

LONDON -- Surreal footage has emerged of the moment flight attendants of the hijacked EgyptAir plane invited a British passenger to pose for that photo with his captor.

The clip, filmed by Dutch passenger Huub Helthuis, shows two attendants chatting with the hijacker, Seif Eldin Mustafa, before calling Ben Innes to come over.

"You want to take a photo with him?" a steward can be heard asking Innes, who replies "Yeah, yeah... is that OK?"

After snapping "the best selfie ever" -- as Innes has called it -- the attendant asks: "Another one?" The mobile phone is then handed back to Innes, who appears content with the result.

As Innes returns to his seat, the two flight attendants can be heard giggling and laughing.

The footage emerged as another photo of the hijacker, this time posing with one of the two attendants, was published on Facebook.

Innes -- whose photo with the hijacker went viral -- was one of 72 passengers and crew taken hostage by Mustafa, who was wearing a fake suicide vest, soon after their EgyptAir flight took off from Alexandria in Egypt.

However, his mother, Pauline Innes, was unimpressed by her son's actions and scolded him as he arrived back in the UK.

"I don't know why you did it," she told her son upon collecting him at Manchester airport.

Innes is said to have contacted his mother after the hijacking began to reassure her that he would keep a low profile.

Instead, he "threw caution to the wind while trying to stay cheerful in the face of adversity."

Pauline Innes also delved into the selfie/not selfie debate, saying that the snap is definitely not a selfie.

"You can clearly see that it is not Ben who is taking the picture,” she said.
