'Sesame Street' creators lose lawsuit against Melissa McCarthy's R-rated puppet movie
The creators of Sesame Street have lost a lawsuit against The Happytime Murders for the tagline "No Sesame, All Street." A judge dismissed the case, which alleged that viewers would think Sesame Street had something to do with the R-rated puppet film.
Per EW, Sesame Street's case also feared that The Happytime Murders "tarnishes Sesame's brand."
U.S. District Judge Vernon Broderick ruled in favor of Happytime's STX Entertainment, which means Happytime doesn't have to change its tagline with a couple months left before release.
STX Entertainment said in a statement that the company "fluffing" loves Sesame Street and wanted to "honor the heritage" of its legacy "while drawing a clear distinction" between it and the explicit world of The Happytime Murders.
The Happytime Murders releases August 17.
