Thanos, who?

All hail our new lord and savior, Norville "Shaggy" Roberts.

Yes, you read that right. Shaggy from the beloved cartoon Scooby Doo is a malevolent god-like figure with universe-destroying abilities. He's completely unmatched against opponents like Thanos, Goku, and even Saitama from One Punch Man.

Or at least, that's what his latest portrayal in meme culture would show. The internet has been flooded with everything from Photoshops to epic battle animations, all featuring Shaggy in his ultimate form.

Some people on the internet seemed confused as to where this idea originated. Just what happened to the goofy scaredy-cat we all know and love?

According to Know Your Meme, Ultra Instinct Shaggy actually originated in 2017 when YouTuber Midya posted a scene from the movie Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur, which remixed Shaggy beating up a gang of bikers with music from Dragon Ball Super.

Polygon reported that in April of 2018 — following the post-Avengers: Infinity War Thanos meme boom — Shaggy faced off against his most worthy opponent. Original art of Thanos and Shaggy squaring off cemented Shaggy's status as a force not to be reckoned with.

But the virality of Shaggy's power didn't quit hit until last month, as Polygon reports, when a Reddit post on r/bossfights featuring Shaggy reached about 3,100 upvotes. Making use of the already trending Sasuke meme, Shaggy was becoming a contender for most powerful being in the universe.

The meme is currently dominating the subreddit /r/dankmemes and on Twitter, showing off Shaggy's unnatural abilities.

But the depth of Shaggy's power really expanded into weird territories when people started doctoring interview subtitles from the 2002 live action Scooby-Doo film.

Eventually people started tweeting at Matthew Lillard, the actor who played Shaggy in the live action movie and has voiced the character since 2010.

But he warmed up to the idea of an all-powerful Shaggy eventually.

There seems to be no end in sight to Shaggy's ultimate form. Petitions have already been created on Change.org to add him as a playable fighter to both Mortal Combat 11 and Smash Ultimate.

So let's keep the memes rolling, but remember — never underestimate his power.
