You can imagine the sweat trickling down the necks of certain Arnott's Biscuits executives.

A rollout of new-and-updated recipes of the company's Shapes biscuits should have been a cause for celebration, but anger from consumers over the new flavours has led to bizarre behaviour.

Multiple boxes of the popular old recipe Shapes, which are being phased out of stores, are selling for astronomical amounts online.

Yes, it's that bad. A listing on eBay has appeared with a seller flipping their box of old recipe Pizza Shapes for A$50, more than 10 times the original price. You know someone will buy it.

"Brand new pack of Arnotts Pizza Shapes," the listing by eBay seller ajmmck reads. "These are the original formula before they changed to the terrible new style! Reminisce about all those years of great tasting Shapes for the last time."

Other opportunistic listings on the site are not as extremely priced, the next cheapest being A$25.95 for a 12 pack of the snack sized bags of Pizza Shapes. Hopefully it comes with insurance on the shipping, because crushed original Shapes would be a devastating delivery.

The wildly-inflated prices of the biscuits follows a massive customer backlash playing out on social media. Customers are demanding that the company return to the old recipes of Shapes, complaining that the new versions, well, suck.

"Dear Arnott's, this is complete and utter sacrilege -- why mess with perfection? Why?" writes Alex Fitzgerald on the Arnott's Shapes Facebook page, one in the endless sea of complaints on the brand's wall.

No news yet if Arnott's will be returning to the old recipe for Shapes, but it's a classic example of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Arnott's has been contacted for comment.
