Even Fox News is defending CNN against Trump
While many are still shaking their heads at the testy exchange Wednesday afternoon between President-elect Donald Trump and CNN reporter Jim Acosta, CNN's biggest competitor is coming to the network's defense.
Fox News anchor Shephard Smith closed the Wednesday edition of his daily news show with a reflection on Trump's raucous press conference, his first in six months, and stood up for Acosta and CNN's reporting.
Said Smith, "neither [CNN] nor any other journalists should be subjected to belittling and delegitimizing by the president-elect of the United States."

During Wednesday's press conference, Trump shouted down a question from Acosta, accusing the network of being "fake news" for reporting on Tuesday night on a memo alleging that Russia may possess compromising information on Trump and that his campaign members had irregular contact with Russian officials.
Unlike BuzzFeed, whom Trump also railed against, CNN did not include any of the allegations within the memo in its report, because it could not verify them.
That apparently meant little to Trump, who berated Acosta before moving on to field a question from another reporter.

After the press conference, CNN posted a statement refuting Trump. "We are fully confident in our reporting," it read. "It represents the core of what the First Amendment protects, informing the people of the inner workings of their government."
