Emoji sheriffs are patrolling Twitter

This town's not big enough for all one hundred of us.

All you internet folk should know who's in charge around these parts now: the dozens of emoji sheriffs patrolling your Twitter feed.

It's a pretty simple meme -- just a cowboy emoji at the top, a body comprised of the emoji of your choice, and some classy emoji cowboy boots at the bottom. Whatever the internet sheriff is in charge of, his emoji body reflects that.

Per New York Magazine, all of this started with an absurd NSFW tweet from comedian Brandon Wardell. In the month since, sheriffs of all kinds have been staking their claims on Twitter:

Thank you, emoji sheriffs, for keeping our internet safe.
