SINGAPORE -- The island state had its first car-free Sunday event, and it looks like people who attended had a blast.

For several hours on Sunday morning, the country's central business district had a rare moment of peace without traffic plying the roads. A 4.7km circuit of roads was closed off, and there were activities and food trucks all over the plush greenery in the city.

The government says the stretch will be car-free on the last Sunday of the month for the next six months, before it decides to continue with the campaign or expand it to cover a larger area.

The day kicked off at 7am and ended at noon, which some attendees said was too early for a carnival-like event to conclude.
