Slack is down but it's almost Friday anyway

UPDATE: May 20, 2021, 3:14 p.m. CDT Slack appears to be back up and running. According to a Slack update, users who are still having issues should "fully quit your Slack app or browser using Command + Q (Mac) or Ctrl + Q (Windows/Linux), and then reopen it."

Slack decided to start the weekend early. And really, can you blame it?

According to Downdetector, the popular workplace messaging app started acting up around 1:17 p.m. ET. (Full disclosure: Downdetector is owned by Mashable's parent company, J2 Global.)

At 1:57 p.m. ET, Slack also posted its own message about the outage:

"We're still working towards a fix, and users may still be facing errors when attempting to load Slack. We appreciate all your patience in the meantime and we'll continue to keep you posted."
