Slack was down for a few hours today. It has now returned online. The original story appears below.

Slack is down.

The messaging tool used around the world went offline Monday afternoon, and thank the lord we're finally free of this curse. No more inane chatter, no more @here messages — just blissful silence.

Still, the Slack loyalists were most definitely concerned.

But others had the right idea.

"We're sorry to report that we're investigating reports of connectivity trouble," reads the Slack status page. "Our team is on the case, and we'll keep you posted as soon as we have updates. Thanks for bearing with us."

Oh, we're happy to bear with you Slack. Take your time.

If you need me, I'll be in my hammock.

UPDATE: May 21, 2018, 1:03 p.m. PDT: According to a Slack spokesperson, the problem is ongoing.

"We are experiencing connectivity issues right now, we are so sorry for any inconvenience," we were told via email. "For the latest updates, please keep an eye on @slackstatus and status.slack.com."

As of the time of this writing, DownDetector shows the outages focused on the East and West Coasts of the United States.

UPDATE: May 21, 2018, 1:22 p.m. PDT: It's back. Sigh.

According to the Slack status page, Slack is working again.

"We're happy to share that the connection problems should no longer be occurring," reads the announcement. "You should be able to connect again, but please let us know if you run into any further issues."

I have an issue, Slack, that I would love to let you know about: Namely, that your service wasn't offline long enough for me to enjoy my hammock. Oh well, bring on the cascade of @here alerts.

UPDATE: May 21, 2018, 2:19 p.m. PDT: LOL well just wait a minute. You see it turns out Slack jumped the gun, and not everything is indeed fixed. According to the aforementioned Status page:

"Our team is still reviewing the trouble, and we are getting back on the right track towards a solution. We hope to have more good news to share with you shortly."

UPDATE: May 21, 2018, 3:29 p.m. PDT: OK, everything finally appears to be really and truly fixed. And this time, that goes for everyone.

"Nothing to report here," reads the Slack status page. "Slack is up and running normally."
